Hisar, Mar 10: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday emphasized that preparing the younger generation to meet evolving global demands is a significant challenge for higher education institutions. Addressing the convocation ceremony of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology in Hisar, Haryana, she underscored the need for education and technology to reach rural areas for balanced and sustainable national development.
Acknowledging the university’s efforts in attracting students from small towns and villages, the President urged graduates to raise awareness about the importance of education in their communities and inspire others to pursue learning.
She highlighted that world-class research in higher education institutions plays a crucial role in India’s ambition to become a global knowledge superpower. Expressing satisfaction over the university’s achievements in research and innovation, she lauded its dedicated departments for startups, incubation, patent filing, and research projects, which foster an entrepreneurial spirit among students.
President Murmu stressed that education is not merely about acquiring knowledge and skills but also about instilling values such as morality, compassion, and tolerance. She noted that an entrepreneurial mindset is essential for students, enabling them to identify opportunities, take risks, and find creative solutions to societal challenges. She encouraged them to shift their focus from seeking employment to creating employment, thus utilizing their skills for social progress and contributing to India's development.
She further paid tribute to Guru Jambheshwarji, after whom the university is named, calling him a visionary saint and philosopher who promoted scientific thought, ethical living, and environmental conservation. His teachings, particularly on protecting nature and showing kindness to all living beings, remain highly relevant in today’s world.
Concluding her address, President Murmu expressed confidence that the faculty and students of Guru Jambheshwar University would continue making meaningful contributions to society by upholding these values and advancing India’s progress.
