Well, not 'lift gloom' as in take the rains away, but certainly the gloom that surrounds Team India following four back-to-back losses against hosts Australia in the ongoing One-Day International series. With thunderstorms predicted for Saturday (January 23), the game in Sydney could be marred by rain, but it would also rob India of their chance to claim some small solaces in what has been a tough tour so far. India 'playing for pride' and Australia 'aiming to be ruthless', may just be just cliches, but they certainly ring true.
India's last 5-0 drubbing came at the hands of a legendary West Indies team in 1988-89, and although this series has not been as one-sided as the one against the mighty Caribbean unit, India will be desperate to avoid that scoreline. Australia, on the other hand, will want to keep their winning momentum going and pound the visitors into the ground ahead of the Twenty20 Internationals.
