Sullia, Oct 14: A government veterinary doctor presently posted at Panaje was washed away in the water current of River Payaswini on the evening of Tuesday October 13. The veterinarian had visited the river at Paladka Anjikaru in the taluk for taking bath.
The victim of this tragic indietn was Prabhakar Nayak (45), a native of Mundekochchi, Ariyadka village, Puttur taluk.
Nayak had undertaken visit to Mysuru along with wife and children, as the schools were closed for Dasara vacation. On his way back, he had been to the house of Paladka Laxminarayana Nayak, a relative. During this visit, he approached River Payaswini at Anjikaru for a bath, but got dragged away due to strong undercurrent. After both his sons, who were at the spot, raised an alarm, locals rushed to the spot. Unable to find Nayak there, they conveyed information to the fire brigade here and the police station.
Fire brigade and home guards personnel, who rushed to the spot along with policemen, launched a thorough search for the missing veterinarian. Their efforts had not yielded fruits till late on Tuesday.
