Davanagere, Sep 7: The special court here, through a judgment delivered on Saturday September 5, sentenced am accused to life imprisonment, besides levying a fine of Rs 25,000. The person had been accused of abducting a college student and raping her.
Mahantesh, an auto rickshaw driver by profession, had abducted the girl student on September 3, 2013 from her college. He had taken her to Bengaluru, where she was raped. A case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act had been registered in the women's police station here relating to this offence.
Judge of the special court, Mallikarjun Gowda, who conducted the hearing, came to the conclusion that the charges levelled against the accused have been proved. Convicting the accused for the above offences, he sentenced him to life imprisonment, in addition to levying fine of Rs 25,000. Out of this fine, Rs 20,000 has been ordered to be disbursed to the victim.
