Ajmer, Jun 27: Covered in a burqa to hide his identity, popular Bollywood singer Himesh Reshamiya visited Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti's Dargah in Ajmer.
'Himesh covered under a burqa reached the shrine by a three-wheeler auto at around 9.20 pm on Tuesday and spent about an hour in the shrine', a dargah committee member told news agency IANS.
Himesh first tried to enter the dargah in Ajmer, about 140 kms from state capital Jaipur, at around 8.15pm.
However, fans recognised him when he stepped out of the car and tried to meet him. The enthusiastic crowd prevented the musician from entering the shrine and eventually he had to go back without offering prayers.
Later, he returned to the dargah covered in a veil. 'He offered flowers, prayers and tied wish threads in the dargah,' the committee member said.
He added that Himesh prayed for the success of his debut film 'Aap Ka Suroor - The Real Love Story', which is set to releaae on June 29, 2007 all-over India.
Spokesperson of Dargha speaking to the reporters criticised Himesh for visiting Darga by wearing Burqa. "It is good that celebrities visit Darga regularly here, but Himesh should not have come by wearing Burqa. If he had the fear of people here due to his popularity, then he should not have visited."
Hazart Khawaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisti's Dargha is an important pilgrimage centre for people of all faiths.
A man wearing burqa to hide his identity is a crime in the middle-east. Readers may be aware that Michael Jackson hit the controversy when he wore burqa and visited a shopping mall in Dubai last year in order to hide his identity.
