Mangaluru, Jun 21: The city crime branch (CCB) have arrested an aide of underworld fugitives Ravi Poojary and Kali Yogesh, who used to provide them mobile phone numbers of well-to-do businessmen in the city.
The arrested has been identified as Vishal C Uchil (27), who stayed in a flat at Capitanio here.
The CCB police led by inspector Valentine D'Souza, based on credible information that the accused was roaming in Ashoknagar area armed with live bullets, raided the spot and arrested him on Saturday June 20.
It is learnt that Vishal was passing on mobile and landline numbers of rich businessmen in the city to Ravi Poojary and Kali Yogesh, who are believed to be absconding in a foreign country.
He used to also supply the same numbers to Pratap Shetty, an undertrial lodged in Mangaluru jail, police said.
The CCB police recovered five live bullets and four mobile phones from the accused.
The accused as well as the seized items have been handed over to Urwa police for further investigations.
The operation was undertaken on the directions of police commissioner S Murugan, under the guidance of DCP (law and order) K M Shantaraju, DCP (crime) Vishnuwardhan, and led by CCB inspector Valentine D'Souza.
