New Delhi, Jan 12: India’s external affairs minister, Dr S Jaishankar, will represent the country at Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States, scheduled for January 20. The confirmation came from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday.
According to an official statement from the ministry, “Dr. S Jaishankar has been invited by the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee to attend the Swearing-In Ceremony of President-Elect Donald J. Trump. He will represent the Government of India on this significant occasion.”
The MEA further elaborated on Jaishankar’s itinerary, noting that he will engage with members of the incoming administration as well as other dignitaries visiting Washington, D C, for the event.
Notably, Dr. Jaishankar had previously visited the United States in late December, where he held discussions with Mike Waltz, the designated National Security Advisor in the Trump administration.
This visit underscores India’s commitment to fostering strong diplomatic ties with the United States as the new administration assumes office.
