Dubai, Jun 14: Young Konkani poet Robert Udyavar has been elected the convener of Daiji Dubai, the prominent forum of Konkani writers in the UAE. He will team up with well-known poet Arthur Pereira as co-convener, Glany Fernandes as treasurer and Stany Bela as Daiji Dubai Publication coordinator.

The election for the term 2015-2017 was held at Dayan D'Souza's residence at Karama on Thursday June 11 under the supervision of founder member Walter Nandalike.
Known for evocative allusions and comparisons, Robert Udyavar has carved a niche in Haiku style of poems. His collection of poems 'Laraam Lazelim' was presented in book format a few years back. Over 50 poems have been published by Konkani magazines in print and online. The talented leader has rendered his services in Daiji Dubai as co-convener and publication coordinator in the past.
Poet Arthur Pereira is a great talent in the field of Konkani. His songs have won prizes and awards galore. He has books to his credit in Konkani and Kannada such as 'Tim Dukam Uloitana', 'Taram and Motiam' and 'Taare Enisi Motta Heli'. His albums have been presented in Konkani and Tulu such as 'Taram', 'Hello Devaa' and 'Pani Pani Barsaa'.
Sakleshpur-born Glany Fernandes is a promising poet and playwright in Konkani. Young writer Stany Bela has become popular for thought provoking short stories and soul searching poems.
The outgoing convener Rony Byndoor expressed gratitude, showed appreciation for members' faith and declared his complete backing to the new team. Ex-co-convener Nanu Marol and ex-treasurer Sunil Kota thanked the forum in their address.
In his inaugural speech Robert Udyavar thanked the members, appealed for support and assured to carry on with the literary missions of Daiji Dubai. Robert Udyavar, Arthur Pereira, Glany Fernandes and Stany Bela pledged absolute contribution is taking Daiji Dubai to new heights.
Daiji Dubai, formed in the year 1999, has grown leaps and bounds during the last sixteen years of 'telltale' history, that includes conferring annual literary awards, lifetime achievement awards, arranging workshops on literature, cultural programmes, Konkani stand-up comedy shows, publication of books, providing financial assistance to needy writers and getting involved in several other causes of Konkani.
