Bhatkal, Jun 11: In a sad incident reported late night on Wednesday June 10, a bride-to-be died in an accident just three days before her wedding.
The deceased has been identified as Mubeena (19), daughter of Abubakar Kalo, a resident of Jamia Abad Colony here. Three other women were also injured in the accident.
The accident took place at around 10 pm when a speeding Omni crashed head-on into auto rickshaw on NH 66 near Shifa cross, Bhatkal.
Sources said that the Maruti Omni was moving from Shirali to Bhatkal while the auto rickshaw was going towards Jamia Abad Colony.
Mubeena who was seriously injured in the accident was rushed to Bhatkal government hospital from where she was shifted to Manipal, but she breathed her last on the way.
Mubeena was to marry Abu Tahir on Sunday June 14 in Shiroor.
Mushfiqa, daughter of Abdul Hameed of Tengungunddi also sustained serious injury, while two other women escaped with minor injuries.
Auto driver Venkatraman and Omni driver Samraj who were also injured were taken Bhatkal government hospital and discharged after initial treatment.
Bhatkal town PSI Johnson D'Souza along with his team arrived at the accident spot. Hundreds of locals also gathered.
A case has been registered in Bhatkal town police station.
Two lorries collide near Shirali National Highway
In another accident, one person was injured after two lorries collided near Shirali national highway on Wednesday.
The accident took place when a lorry carrying wooden logs from Cochin to Pune collided with a lorry moving from Hubballi to Mangaluru.
Mahadev (40), driver of the lorry carrying wooden logs was injured and lost his leg in the accident. He was shifted to Mangaluru for advanced treatment.
Mahadev who had got stuck inside the lorry was rescued with the help of a JCB. The locals who helped in the efforts alleged negligence on the part of the government hospital in Shirali in treating Mahadev.
A case has been registered in Bhatkal rural police station.
