Kundapur, Jun 7: The police on Sunday June 7 arrested a government employee for allegedly taking advantage of a woman by making false promises of marriage.
The accused, identified as Rakesh of Kundapur, was arrested based on a complaint filed by Veena (name changed) of Kumta in Amasebail police station.
In the complaint, Veena alleged that Rakesh had promised to marry her and developed physical relationship with her, but then ditched her.
As a government employee, Rakesh is based in Kumta and in course of time came to know Veena. Their friendship developed into a love affair and after assuring to marry her, Rakesh had physical relationship with her. However, he later went back on his promise, stated the complaint filed by Veena.
Based on the woman's complaint, the police arrested Rakesh and booked him under sections 376 and 417 of IPC. He was produced in court after medical examination.
Meanwhile, the families of Veena and Rakesh intervened and tried to get them married and settle the matter. Both were called to the circle inspector's office on Sunday, but eventually, the efforts failed.
