Mangaluru, Apr 14: Miscreants set fire to fish crates at Bunder port here in the wee hours of Tuesday April 14, causing loss worth lacs of rupees.
The crates belonged to Abdul Aziz, a fish trader.
The crates were kept near the spot where boats were anchored.
At around 1.30 am in the night, some miscreants came to the spot allegedly put fire to the boxes. The boats were not damaged.
The locals who saw the fire swung into action and managed to put out the fire.
It is learnt that as many as 500 crates were charred, each worth Rs 600, putting the total loss at Rs 3 lac.
Locals said that from the past few ays some people had been trying to create trouble in the area. "There are some people who are jealous and cannot stand anyone doing business with another community. A group of people smokes ganja and creates trouble here. Though we have given complaint to police, they just came and issued a warning, but did not take any serious action," they said.
Bunder police have registered a case.
