Mangaluru, Apr 4: An unprecedented but manmade chaos affected banks in Karnataka on Saturday April 4.
After three days of holidays, the bankers were not happy to resume work with holiday hangover marking their faces, not to mention about some lucky ones who have gone on long leave. Saturday is a half working day and the banks are open only for three hours from 10 am to 1 pm.
Some customers were seen outside the bank as early as 9 am. But the banks allowed customers inside only after 10 am. Within minutes from that, customers could be seen walking into banks in big numbers.
All the banks in Mangaluru city witnessed this. There was absolutely no place even to stand inside the banks. This sent the staff of some banks to resort to delaying tactics. Customers suffered without knowing when their time would come to get their work done.
The banks in the region especially nationalised ones are seldom quipped to deal with heavy rush. Even if they were, they would do the work in their own style.
Some banks blamed ‘internet connectivity’ and ‘system not opened’ for the delay. In fact enquiry by daijiworld has revealed that due to ‘some problems’ and ‘yearend’ bug, some systems in banks were really down and were restored only later after complaints were received.
It seemed almost impossible that the customers who walked in to the bank would walk out with their work done.
A customer speaking to Daijiworld said, "Why do they want so many holidays? Why can't they work like other private concerns and offer services even on holidays? When they will change?"
