Ryu wins world ladies golf championship

Haikou (China), March 15 (IANS): South Korean golfer Ryu So Yeon carded a four-under 69 in the final round for a total of 279 to win the individual crown at the world ladies championship on Sunday.

She beat defending champion and teammate Park Inbee into second place by one stroke, reports Xinhua.

Park, ranked second, scored 71 to total 280, while Chinese Lin Xiyu and last year runner-up Suzann Pettersen of Norway shared the third place with 282, reports Xinhua.

The world ladies championship is unique in golf as three titles are contested simultaneously in one event, with an individual professional stroke play, amateur and professional team aggregate prize, for the leading pair representing their country.

In the team competition, Ryu and Park finished first with 559, beating second-placed Norway by 15. China's Lin Xiyu and Lu Wanyao were third with 580.

In the amateur category, 13-year-old Chinese Ye Lei had 76 in the final round for a winning total of 305.
