Mangaluru, Feb 28: In connection with the group clashes at K C Road near Talapady relating to dispute over hanging of buntings and banners, the police have taken into custody several people.
Two have been arrested for their involvement in the disturbances. In the meanwhile, prohibitory orders issued within the limits of Ullal and Konaje police stations have been extended till March 2.
The arrested men have been identified as Shafique (31), residing near the water tank at Kinya, and Aslam (28) from Talapady.
Stones were pelted against each other by two gangs, after hanging of buntings and flags relating to Talapady temple at K C Road Junction on Wednesday was objected to by another gang. Several people were injured in stone pelting incidents, and some vehicles were damaged.
In the meanwhile, no fresh incidents were reported from within Ullal police station on Friday. The policemen have been enforcing prohibitory orders by asking shops and establishments to down their shutters by 6 pm. Some residents of K C Road have expressed anger at the harsh treatment people returning home after work in the evening faced at the hands of policemen. Additional police forces including Karnataka State Reserve Police have been deployed at Mogaveerapatna, Mukkacheri, Thokkottu, Deralakatte, Kuthar etc.
