Los Angeles, Feb 28 (IANS): American actor Leonard Nimoy, best known for his portrayal of half-human science officer Spock in "Star Trek", died here on Friday. He was 83.
The iconic actor died of a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, CNN quoted his family members as saying.
His "Star Trek" co-stars, including William Shatner and George Takei, expressed sadness at his death.
In a career spanning six decades, Nimoy's stint included film direction, singing, poetry and photography. But his lasting claim to fame remains Spock, a native of the planet Vulcan whose pointed ears, unemotional manner endeared him to millions of his fans.
