Karkala, Jan 20: The comedy artiste of Saligrama troupe Kumata, Moorooru Ramesh Bhandary has been selected for Kundeshwar Samman award which will be presented to him by Kundeshwara Kshetra of Hirga.
The award is given away in the memory of late Raghavendra Bhat who was the trustee of Kundeshwar temple, organizer of Yakshagana shows and artiste. The award will be presented to him on January 23, informed selection committee convener Jithendra Kundeshwar.
The annual fair of Kundeshwar kshetra is scheduled for January 22. Saligrama troupe will perform Yakshagana on the occasion. The award will be presented during the programme. The award was presented to Saligrama troupe convener Kishan Hegde last year.
Moorooru Ramesh Bhandary had joined the troupe soon after his mid-term examination of ninth standard. He was a member of Shirsi Panchalingeshwara mela during the initial two years. He joined Perdooru troupe and entertained people for 23 years. He is a part of Saligrama troupe for the last five years.
His parts of 'Keechake Vadheya Vijaya', Uttarana Paurushada Uttara, 'Bedara Kannappa Kashi Mani', 'Bhoo Kailasada Mani', 'Kalidasa', 'Chandravali Ajji' and 'Manthare' have become memorable.
He started to get his name and fame in recent dramas as comedy took the centre stage in most of them. He fell while dancing as an artiste four years ago and remained at the backstage for sometimes. He overcame his injuries and once again started shining through his comedy shows.
He has successfully filled the void created by the absence of comedy artistes Salgodu Ganapathi Bhat and Kunjalu Ramakrishna Naik.
