Udupi, Dec 28: A heated general body meeting took place at Udupi City Municipal Council on Saturday, December 27.
The meeting began with the issue of adjournment of the previous month’s meeting (held on November 29, 2014) which ended in just 25 minutes. Naveen Bhandary snatched the agenda from the hands of the CMC president before sitting on ‘Dharna’.
After a long discussion, commissioner Srikanth Rao approached to submit a report to DC Vishal about this. Yuvaraj expressed regret over the attitude of councilor.
Senior BJP councilor Dinkar Shetty objected to the events of the previous meeting where the president announced the entire agenda of the House as passed with a majority vote and adjourned the House. He alleged that no Congress councilors came to ask for continuation of the meeting. “It will curb the interests of the public. So, such mistakes will not continue in the coming meeting,” he added raising an issue about construction of roads.
The engineer said that out of five, around four packages have been started under road patch work.
One of the complaints was from the Herga ward councilor that the area engineer does not consider his suggestions about the foundation-stone laying ceremony during construction.
Sunitha Naik urged that the confusions over the list of homeless families be cleared. There are 178 homeless families in Udupi district.
Vasanthi Shetty complained that the Ambalpady area faces problems from municipality workers in cleaning and grass cutting. “In addition, some people throw waste at night. This is a big challenge to control,” she added.
Janardhan Bhandarkar, nominated director, said, “The wastage management concept should start from booth level and awareness creation programme is also needed. There are 35 wards in the city.”
M R Pai, leader of the opposition, was absent at the meeting.
The rest of the meeting went peacefully. Vice-president Amritha Krishnamurthy presided over the meeting.
