Udupi, Dec 25: Recollecting immense sacrifices made by Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru for independence of India. Rajya Sabha member, Oscar Fernandes, said that Congress has strived for social and economic justice for the common people of the country.apart from governing the country on secular principles.
He was speaking at the Congress Founding Day programme organized by the district and Kaup block committees of Congress party in association with Mangalore University History Teachers Association at Rajiv Gandhi Academy of Political Education, Thenka Yermal near Padubidri on Tuesday December 23. He also took part in debates, symposia, etc on freedom struggle and the party, and also a symposium about Congress Sevadal founder, N S Hardikar after inaugurating them, besides interacting with the participants and students. Students also took part in the proceedings with interest.
Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, presided. MLC Pratapchandra Shetty, former MLA Gopal Bhandary, KPCC secretary M A Gafoor, chairperson of Mysore Soaps and Detergents Veronica Carnelio, president of Mangalore University History Teachers Association Prof Suresh Kateel, etc participated as chief guests.
