Mangalore, Dec 6: Sunanda Shastri (81), noted social worker and wife of renowned Ayurvedic physician the late Dr M C Shastri, passed away of a heart attack at her Balmatta residence on Tuesday, December 5.
She was actively involved in social work in different organizations for over six decades. She had also served as president of Guild of Service, vice president of Ishwarananda Women's Society and convener of the Speech and Hearing Centre Pandeshwar and in other posts.
Besides, she was a Sevika of the Chinmaya Mission since 1957. She ran Bal Vihar classes over the past twentyfive years.
She is survived by son and former Lions district governor Dr Santoshkumar Shastri and two daughters.
It may be noted that former Indian cricketer and now commentator Ravishankar Jayadrath Shastri, better known as Ravi Shastri, hails from a branch of this family, which traces its original roots to Inna in Udupi district.
