Pakistan must improve fielding standards: Waqar Younis

Sharjah, Dec 20 (IANS): Pakistan coach and pace legend Waqar Younis has said his side needs to revamp its fielding standards and batting against short-pitched deliveries to be competitive enough at the impending 2015 One-Day International (ODI) World Cup in February-March 2015.

Pakistan lost the fifth and final ODI against the New Zealand by 68 runs in Abu Dhabi Friday to concede the series 2-3.

"We need to improve our fielding," Younis was quoted as saying by espncricifo.com.

"It is not up to the mark and must improve a lot. We also need to work hard on short balls as we have to go to Australia and both these things need to be spot on if you want to compete in the World Cup," added the 43-year-old.

Despite the defeat, Younis asserted that there were positives to be taken from the series.

"We did achieve what we needed but not 100 percent. Now we have a one-day cup back home and hope that things will be clearer after that," said Younis.
