Hassan, Dec 19: In an incident which occurred in a village on Wednesday December 17, a man killed his wife, for serving him food that was in his opinion, not up to the mark.

Puttalakshmi (26), wife of Venkatesh from Kadabagala Hosahalli in Kundoor revenue division in the district lost her life in this incident.

It is gathered that after lunch was served at home on Wednesday, Venkatesh admonished his wife, claiming that the dish served to him with rice was salty. There were some exchange of words between husband and wife on this issue. Enraged, Venkatesh picked up a can of kerosene, poured it on his wife, and torched her, it is learnt.

Puttalakshmi was rushed to the government hospital in the town with severe burn injuries. She succumbed to her injuries at night, policemen said.

At the hospital, policemen recorded Puttalakshmi's statement about what had transpired. On the basis of this statement, they arrested Venkatesh.

The two had married six years ago. The deceased is survived by husband and two children.
