Mangaluru, Dec 19: Three persons, who the police claim had been robbing truck drivers, were arrested by Ullal police on Thursday December 18.
They have been identified as Mohammed Shariff (29) from Montugoli, Muhammed Imranalias Abbu (20), a resident of Vidyanagara in Montugoli, and Nawaz (25) from Kairangala Gundalike. It is said that the trio had gained expertise in looting truck drivers. Two vehicles were taken into possession from them.
It is gathered that the three used to wait for trucks loaded with wooden logs that move towards Montugoli from Kedambadi on Karnataka-Kerala border. They stopped the trucks, flashed lethal weapons, and forced those in the trucks to part with cash.
Hussain Konaje, one of the owners of the trucks which were intercepted by the said gang, had filed a complaint in Konaje police station. Police inspector of the station, Raghava Padil, sub-inspector, Sudhakar, and others working under the directions of deputy commissioner of police, Vishnuvardhan, and assistant police commissioner, Pavan Nejjur, succeeded in arresting the culprits. A Bolero vehicle and a motor bike were also confiscated from the possession of the arrested persons.
Out of the above, Nawaz had reportedly tried to rob a truck driver on Wednesday at Kotekar near Ullal, and a case had been registered in Ullal station against him.
Konaje police have registered a case and begun investigation.
