Udupi, Dec 11: Block Congress members, Udupi, and District Mahila Congress members staged a protest on Thursday December 11 against BJP MLA Prabhu Chavan, near Clock Tower, Udupi.

Chavan was found watching a zoomed-in picture of Priyanka Gandhi on his mobile phone during House proceedings while another BJP MLA U B Banakar was found playing video games, oblivious to the discussion about the plight of sugarcane growers to whom sugar mill owners owe huge arrears.

Veronica Carnelio, president, District Mahila Congress, said, “This is a matter of shame. We are in the midst of duality and there is a need to raise questions on such issues. It is a drama and the public have lost faith in him. He took a false oath as an MLA”.

The members of the committee urged the immediate suspension of the culprits from the assembly session and demanded strict action against Chavan for the 'indecent act'.

M A Gafoor said condemning the acts of Chavan, “He has hurt the dignity of their leader and broken the discipline of the Vidhana Sabha. All those found playing on their mobiles should be punished without delay”.

Udupi City municipal council president Yuvaraj, Neetha Priyadarshini, Neetha Kini, Amritha Krishnamoorthy, Amritha Shenoy, Ramesh Kanchan, counselor, Janardhan Bhandarkar, Kishan Hegde, and all Congress committee members were present.
