Dharwad: Rape attempt at hostel,taluk extension officer suspended

Dharwad, Dec 4: Relating to an incident in which attempt to rape was made against the inmate of a government-run hostel, A F Kattimani, taluk extension officer of Kalaghatagi, was suspended with effect from Wednesday December 3.

In connection with the complaint of rape attempt, zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Ramandeep Choudhary, and district children's protection Officer, Dr B Usha, visited the residential hostel and checked the conditions and got abreast of the developments. After the visit, Choudhary announced that Kattimani has been suspended.

Rape attempt had been made on a girl of the residential hostel early morning on November 24. The officials had kept the matter under wraps. Supervisor of the hostel had later sent the girl home. After some days, the parents asked the girl to go back to the hostel, after which the girl explained about her horrible experience.

After the incident came to light, about 27 girls had left the hostel, it is said. It is gathered that after the regular warden of the hostel went on maternity leave, an officer had been made in-charge of the hostel affairs.
