Mangaluru, Nov 25: A high level committee led by Dr Kasturi Rangan has recommended that 1,576 villages in the Western Ghats area be declared as ‘ecologically sensitive’. Of these, 45 come under Dakshina Kannada district limits.
The Karnataka state government, based on complaints with regard to the report, had formed two committees to physically verify the sensitive areas. The state level committee and district level committee have completed the process of verification.
The high level state committee will hold public discussions and exchange views on the second floor of the office of the deputy commissioner on Saturday November 29 at 3.30 pm. People’s representatives, organizations, farmers, and environmentalists can express their opinions in the presence of the committee, said a press communication by the deputy commissioner.
