Udupi, Nov 16: Udupi police have arrested two notorious thieves who have admitted to have conducted thefts in ten houses in Udupi, Malpe and Manipal.
The arrested are identified as Manjunatha alias Manju (31) son of Jambanna Agastavar from Chandiya, Karwar and Manjunatha alias Manju (22), son of Huligeppa Gavadi from Brahmadevada, Avadalli in Karwar taluk.
The suspects were arrested by Karwar police for thefts at Karwar, Udupi, Manipal and Malpe.
As the police in Karwar gave information to Udupi station police that the two have admitted on their own accord that they have conducted thefts in Udupi also, Udupi circle inspector
Srikanth K on direction from Police commissioner Rajendra Prasad and additional commissioner Santhosh Kumar brought them by means of a body warrant from Karwar to Udupi and produced them in Udupi court.
When the two were questioned after obtaining judicial custody on November 10, 2014, they admitted that they have conducted thefts in Udupi, Malpe and Manipal police station limits and identified ten houses where the thefts were conducted.
They have also shown two jewellery shops where the stolen jewellery was sold by them. The police have recovered gold and silver jewellery valued at Rs 13,70,000 from those places.
The operation was conducted by Gopal Naik, PI of Manipal, Udupi city PSI Madhu T S, Crime division PSI Raj Gopal, Malpe PSI Ravi Kumar, ASI Prakash and other staff.
