Mangaluru, Nov 15: The Psychiatry Dept. headed by Dr Keshava Pai ,HOD, KMC,& Team in association with Mangalore Alzheimer's Association -M.A.A-headed by Er Jerardin D'souza, held a purposeful and useful Care Givers Meet at KMC-Attavara.
A good gathering of care givers, elders and affected families assembled at the lecture hall.
The elders of KMC-Nava Chaitanya Group enthusiastically participated in the meeting.
The meet started with Rajeshwari was KMC-Nava Chaitanya invoking the Lords Blessings.
A video display on the malfunctioning of the brain was projected. How the 'Memory Loss' occurs due to the deposit of certain 'proteins' in the circuit of the nervous system.This is how Alzheimer's Disease [AD] occurs. The devastating Disease that destroys the family was explained by Dr Keshava Pai.
Mr Zaid Baji, President of KMC Nava Chaitanya,explained how a member who was inactive and lethargic ,when he joined, has now become ,very active and participates in all exercise programs.So we can arrest the degeneration of muscles as well as brain, by group therapy.
Dr Ravish Thunga,renowned Psychiatrist who actively participated,said doing Yoga, listening to music and even eating the creeper ''THIMARE" can arrest Memory loss,in reply to a question as to how can we prevent losing memory.Frequent exercise, is a must, he said.
Dr Ravish Thunga narrated how Richard Shreder and Er.Jerardin D'souza had come to his clinic,and he thought it was for some patient in the family. Now seeing the activities of MAA, " I am truly wonder struck by the progress and proactive activities MAA has conducted and I commend Jerardin D'souza for it"

So special training is needed. The Social Work Students should be encouraged in getting trained and they should personally attend to the AD affected" said Mr.Jerardin D'souza
Dr Ravish Thunga suggested that the 'Panel Discussion on Alzheimer's Disease [AD]' conducted by MAA at Bishop Jathanna Hall,recording should be viewed by all affected families ,since it was a very informative discussion with top professionals participating.All FAQ are answered there,he stressed.
