Bengaluru, Nov 12: With a hardly few months left for elections to the prestigious Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections, the State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to release Rs 1,000 crore for the city corporation for taking up road works in all wards.
The State Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has approved 465 tender works for development of roads in the city.
The City’s roads are in poor condition and they would get a face lift using the grant, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister TB Jayachandra told reporters while briefing on the State Cabinet decisions.
The long pending demand of personnel serving in BBMP hospitals and health care centres has been fulfilled with cabinet giving its nod for salary revision of doctors, nurses, lag technicians and other staff, he said.
The State Cabinet also cleared a proposal on developing a handicrafts village on the lines of Delhi Haat at Doddabidarakalli village in the outskirts of Bengaluru.
A sum of Rs 15 crore approved for the craft village.
The project to be implemented through Karnataka Handicrafts Development Corporation and the village would have crafts museum, sales outlets, cafetaria and other facilities.
The Cabinet has also decided to waive the interest of about Rs 123 crore on the loans procured by small craftsmen obtained through Khadi and Village Industries Commission.
In another decision, the Cabinet approved to grant of 84 acres near Devanahalli in Bengaluru for Indian Navy for setting up various facilities.
Incidentally, the State Cabinet has ratified new names of 12 cities, including Bengaluru and Managaluru with effect from November 1, the 59th Rajyotsava Day of the State.
