Fight between fish and vegetable sellers in Kinnigoli market

Mangaluru, Nov 3: It happened at Kinnigoli market yesterday. It was a fight between the fish sellers and vegetable sellers. The fish sellers happened to be only women and the vegetable sellers were men. So they called it as a fight between men and women in the market. Some even called it as a fight between vegetables and fish. The fight was witnessed by hundreds of people.

Jagannatha (34) and Vishwanatha (36) two vegetable sellers in the Kinnigoli market found fish waste dumped in a garbage box in front of their shops on Sunday. As it was Sunday, the Panchayat people had not collected the garbage. The smell from the garbage was unpleasant and the customers complained about it. Then the above mentioned two persons brought this matter to the notice of the fisherwomen.

It is said that the fisherwomen came in a group to the vegetable shops and threw vegetables at the vegetable sellers. In retaliation, the men also threw vegetables at the women. Only the police who arrived at the scene could control them.

The police who stopped the fight wanted an ultimate solution. They phoned the Panchayat people who did not respond at all. Later the people realised that Panchayat workers do not attend phones on Sundays.

The newly built market is a better place compared to the olden days, but garbage collection is not done promptly and regularly. The people who dump the garbage also feel that they can dump it anywhere and anyhow. Previously also the market was closed for a day because of fighting in relation to garbage.

Panchayat is least bothered about the problem. Meanwhile the two vegetable merchants have lodged a complaint at Mulki police station.
