Bangalore, Oct 21: On the auspicious occasion of World Mission on Sunday October 19, 'Good Samaritan Day' celebration was held at St Francis Xavier Girls High School, Bangalore.
'Good Samaritan Day' was inaugurated by chief guest U T Khader, Minister for Health and Family welfare, Karnataka by releasing the blue and white coloured balloons into the Sky. It was followed by a prayer song by blind couple Br James and his wife Rani and welcome dance by Pearl Lobo and Jennifer Hanna, members of Koncab Youth wing
The function was rightly themed 'We care-we share.' More than 50 disabled people from different walks of life attended the function. Motorized vehicle and several wheel chairs were donated to Karnataka Spinal Cord Injury Association and the needy at the function.
Special Recognition Award and certificates were given to Lalitha, Nirmala, Palswami for their service in the field of supporting and helping people suffering from spinal cord injury and other physical disabilities.
The honorable minister U T Khader, minister for Health and Family Welfare despite his busy schedule attended the function and assured of all that is possible help for the disabled within his limitations. A memorandum containing some of the demands from the differently abled were handed over to the honorable minister by spinal cord injury association. Khader also inaugurated exclusive website www.jeevadata.com, a website intended to work as a resource for the differently abled and wished all success to the objectives of Good Samaritan Day.
Ronald Mendonca, chairman of Kalaangann, Mangalore in his speech encouraged everyone to help the disabled and needy in the society. Babu Noronha, police Inspector and winner of several awards, emphasized on helping the needy. He was of the view that if each one of us did their bit, the world would have been much better. Fr Pravin Pinto, a well-known spiritual leader, supported the function with his blessings. Simon Rodrigues wished all the best for the function.
The programme was organized by BCCRS member and social activist Nelly Prichard and assisted by Godwin Castelino, compered by Lalitha, Koncab Youthwing members volunteered the programme. Karnataka Spinal Cord Injury Association president Sitharam and general secretary Nagendra Kumar and other association members were present.
