Bangalore, Oct 6: A committee headed by noted Kannada writer S G Siddaramaiah selected D Borappa for the Sri Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti award for the year 2014-15, informed minister for Social Welfare H Anjaneya to presspersons here on Monday, October 6.
The educationist and helper of the poor and downtrodden sections of society, D Borappa (79) has been selected for the award for his outstanding contribution in the field of education. The state government has instituted this award.
He was born on August 1, 1935 at Doddalghatta village in Chitradurga district. Borappa holds MA degrees in Kannada and Political Science. He has founded educational institutions and started many hostels for the benefit of poor and downtrodden students.
He was also the founder of the district Madakarinayaka association, Chitradurga. Borappa has also donated funds for construction of a Valmiki temple and other temples in Chitradurga district.
The award and the cash prize of Rs 2 lac would be presented to Borappa by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Valmiki Jayanti day (October 8) celebrations at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha.
