Bangalore, Sep 17: A delegation of Sri Lankan elected representatives and officers of Local Government and Provincial Councils had visited Karnataka to study implementation of Karnataka’s flagship scheme of Sakala.
An orientation programme was held for the visiting delegationregarding Sakala in Bangalore on Tuesday.
Manoj, Additional Mission Director, explaining the road travelled by the Mission, said that Sakala is revolutionary program of the State which intends to standardize citizen service Delivery and make the Government more accountable.
Sakala mandates the delivery of 669 services across 50 departments within a stipulated time and is providing 135 online services too which in turn has become instrumental in avoiding red tapism and corruption in the administrative system, he said.
Sakala’s integrated grievance redressal mechanism has reached all the corners of the State with more than 200 helpdesks set up across all taluk headquarters.
The Sakalacall centre functions as receiving and channelizing complaints and in providing information to the people, he said.
In an attempt to reach out to the public in person, the State Law Minister attends a live-phone in programme arranged through Doordarshan which is aired every first and third Wednesday of the month, he explained.
Manoj attributed Sakala’s success to strong political leadership, Publicity and awareness, Independent and Concurrent evaluation, citizen’s trust, Government process reengineering, involvement of bureaucracy and employee’s acceptance.
The Sri Lankan team was led by AnuradhaGaminiPeramunage and comprised 20 members.
Principal Secretary, DPARand Director, Sakala MissionM V Jayanthi, Dr Shalini Rajneesh, Principal Secretary, Backward Classes Commission and Kannada,Culture, Information and Public Relations Department, Dr B RMamatha, Nodal Officer, Sakala (Publicity) and Joint Director, Department of Information and Public Relations, and others were present on the occasion.
