Bangalore, Sep 24: Congress will never try to bring down the Janata Dal (Secular) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition government in Karnataka, State Pradesh Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge said today.
Talking to newsmen here, he denied reports that Congress leaders recent visit to Delhi to meet Prime Minister was aimed at pressurising the Centre to dismiss the Coalition government following alleged corruption charges including Rs 150 Crore 'Mining Bribery.' Kharge said that "there is no need for Congress to take pain to bring down the Coalition government in the State as it will fall on its own. Recent developments, including 'Mining Briber' charges and ministers raising unwarranted issues including Tippu, former Prime Minister and JD(S) National President warning BJP, clearly shows that the coalition partners are trying to bring down the government." He alleged that BJP itself indulging in destablising the government besides attempting to disturb peace by raking up unwarranted issues.
Welcoming the decision of the state government to conduct Legislative Session in the border district of Belgaum from September 25, Kharge said that "Congress welcomes the move but the hurridness clearly shows that the coalition government trying cover up their failure in handling issues including alleged corruption charges and rehabilitation of people affected due to floods and drought."
He said that holding session in Belgaum will send a strong signal to Maharashtra, which is unnecessarily raking up the Belgaum border issue. "The Session proves Karnataka's unity on the Belgaum border issue." Mr Kharge said that during the recent meeting with Prime Minister he was appraised about political situation in the State.
In a memorandum submitted during the meeting, Dr Manmohan Singh was requested to release more funds for rehabilitation works.
