Mangalore, Sep 21: Dussera is all set be a grand affair in the city this year round with festivities beginning on Saturday Sep 23. The inauguration will be done by union minister for parliamentary affairs Priyaranjan Das Munshi at Kudroli Temple here.
Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday Sep 20, spokesperson of the Navratri and Dussera celebrations committee Harikrishna Bantwal informed that Rajya Sabha member Janardhan Poojary, Akhila Karnataka Arya Idiga Sangha vice-president J P Narayana Swamy, National Billawa Mahamandala president Jaya C Suvarna and All Karnataka Vishwakarma Mahasabha president K P Nanjundi are expected to attend the programme.
Several cultural programmes will be held during the nine-day festival, including a grand procession consisting of over a 100 tableaux. The procession will start from the temple and will circle around the city before culminating back at the temple.
A display of four 13-feet idols of Shiva with waterspouts of 100 feet, depicting "Gangavatharana," will also be a part of the celebrations.
More than ten lac devotees from all over India and abroad are expected to arrive at the city during the nine-day festivities.
