Mangalore, Aug 24: Three persons were allegedly assaulted by a group of persons reportedly belonging to a right wing outfit, on claims that they were illegally transporting cattle. The incident occured late night on Saturday August 23 near Pumpwell.
Chembugudde residents Abdul Sameer, Sadiq and Shoukath Ali Permannur were reportedly transporting 13 cattle from Uppinangady towards Mangalore in a vehicle bearing Kerala registration number.
On receiving information, a group of persons said to be from a right wing outfit chased the vehicle and forcibly brought it to a stop. Sources said that some of them even jumped on to the vehicle and pulled the driver out, with the result that the vehicle hit a bike and came to a stop.
The three were forced out of the vehicle and allegedly dragged and beaten up by the group.
The police arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control.
Three persons, identified as Prakash, Manoj and Shivaraj, were arrested on the spot.
Abdul Sameer who was seriously injured has been admitted to a private hospital, while the other two are in Wenlock hospital.
Kankanady police have registered a case and further investigations are on. The vehicle and the cattle were taken to the police station.
