Bengaluru, Jan 17: The Karnataka BJP has raised concerns about a possible terror link in a violent ATM heist that occurred in Bidar on Thursday. A gang of robbers shot and killed a security agency staff member, severely injured another, and looted an ATM cash vehicle in broad daylight.
State BJP president B Y Vijayendra expressed alarm over the incident, calling it a significant threat to public safety. "The audacity of criminals to launch such an attack in broad daylight suggests this may not be a simple case of robbery. The possibility of terrorist involvement cannot be ruled out. The government must address this issue with utmost seriousness," he said, highlighting what he termed as a weakening law-and-order situation in the state.
Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai echoed these concerns, alleging that Karnataka is becoming increasingly lawless. "Crimes like daylight robberies and heinous assaults on children are on the rise, emboldening offenders. Immediate and strict action must be taken against the culprits," he demanded, urging the state government to enforce severe punishments.
Responding to the incident, forest minister and Bidar district in-charge Eshwar B Khandre assured swift action. "I have directed the police to take immediate steps to apprehend those responsible for this shootout in Bidar," he said on Thursday.
The brazen attack has sent shockwaves across the state, prompting demands for a robust response to curb such incidents and restore public confidence.
