Kasargod: Truck-bike accident at Uppala - Man dies, son suffers injuries

Kasargod, Aug 11: The rider of a motor bike died and his son suffered serious injuries in an accident which took place on national highway in the district. The accident occurred on Sunday August 10 evening near Uppala town.

The deceased has been identified as Zulfikar (40) from Badiyadka. Zulfikar's son, six-year-old Shazeel, suffered injuries. It is learnt that the father-son duo was returning home in the two-wheeler after visiting the home of Zulfikar's in-laws located at Bappaithatti in Uppala.

As the motor bike was moving near Uppala town, a truck coming from the direction of Mangalore knocked it down. Both the occupants of the bike got thrown on to the road due to the impact of the accident. The locals made arrangements to shift them to a hospital in Mangalore. However, Zulfikar did not survive the journey, and doctors pronounced him brought dead, it is learnt.

The body of the deceased was then shifted to the community health centre of Mangalpady for postmortem.

Zulfikar was an electrician. In 2009, he had lost his brother Khalid in accident.

A case relating to the incident was registered in Manjeshwar police station.

    Very unfortunate. Again this is second accident in just two days, both due to speeding trucks, these truck drivers are reckless, they do speeding, overtake, exhaust themselves so that they cannot drive in right sense of mind!

    Police should take strict action against these drivers.

    Also, people on bikes should wear helmets at all times.
