Mangalore, Jul 26: Former union minister and BJP national leader, Dr Subramanian Swamy, was on a private visit to the town on Friday July 25. On his way back after visiting Sringeri temple and meeting Sri Bharatiteertha Swamiji there, he visited Chowtara Aramane here.
When a journalist questioned him about the general impression prevalent among the people that it is either impossible or a herculean task to bring back black money stashed away in Swiss banks by Indians, Swamy said that he will prove this impression wrong by getting this money back, if the responsibility to do so is entrusted to him.
He welcomed foreign direct investment (FDI) in India, if it relates to technology transfer and the give-and-take policy applies to all subjects. He expressed strong opposition to FDI through Walmart and such other foreign conglomerates, as he said they can prove deadly for retail trade sector in the country. "The retailers here will not be able to compete with and survive with those who are able to borrow in USA at two per cent interest," he opined.
On the issue of giving the status of opposition leader in the Lok Sabha to Congress party, Swamy said this is not possible till at least that party's membership strength in Lok Sabha touches 55.
About confusing signals emanating from the centre over the Aadhaar card, Swamy said he would not like to comment about those leaders who were dead against this system before the Lok Sabha election, but suddenly changed their minds and favoured this card after getting elected. He said it would be better if this question is posed to union minister, Anant Kumar, who hails from Karnataka.
Swamy was accompanied by his close asociates, BJP leader, V S Chandralekha, personal assistant, Jagadish Shetty, K Sudhir, Vijendra Shetty, and Anand Kini from the city.
After resting for 30 minutes, Swamy left for Chennai by flight from the city.
