Kundapur, Jul 8: A village in Byndoor woke up on Tuesday July 8 morning to the disturbing news of serial thefts that occurred at night in the commercial area. The locals say that as far as their memory goes, no serial thefts had ever taken place here in the past.

Thieves who forced their entry into eight commercial establishments late night on Monday July 7, decamped with valuables and cash. The shops targetted by them were located within an earshot of the local police station. The cost of the valuables and cash lost in these thefts, which is yet to be assessed, is estimated to run into several lacs of rupees.

Three jewellery shops, an electronic shop, a medical shop, two wine shops and a hotel were at the receiving end of these thefts. The thieves, who seemed to be well-experienced in their task, had removed the locks and shutters of these shops with the help of iron bars.

Cases relating to these thefts stand registered in Byndoor police station.

Circle inspector Sudarshan, sub-inspector Santosh, apart from sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts from Udupi surveyed the area and collected details.
