Udupi, June 20: Shobha Karandlaje, MP from Udupi-Chickmagalur Lok Sabha constituency has said that a permanent protective wall will be constructed at Kaup-Thottam and Udyavar-Padukere sea shores within the next five years.
She said that sea erosion is an old problem and cannot be solved by temporary barriers. She said that the problem will be brought to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a protective wall be constructed.
She was speaking to the media after visiting Kaup-Thottam and Udyavara-Padukere areas affected by sea erosion along with department officials and BJP leaders on Wednesday June 18 morning.
"Sea erosion is not only the problem of the sea shores in the state but has affected the sea shores in ten states and three areas under the administration of the union government. It is a national problem. A solution for it will be arrived at by holding discussions at the national level. MP's of coastal regions in the state and the country will join the discussion with the Prime Minister in this regard," she
said.
"Several problems such as CRZ, deep sea fishing, full fledged ports and such other grave problems including sea erosion have been pestering the fishermen's community. A delegation will be taken to the Prime Minister to try and solve the problems," she assured.
She has obtained information regarding places affected by sea erosion from T S Rathod, joint director of the department of fishing and indicated that the problems will be considered seriously for solutions.
BJP district president Vikramarjuna Hegde, Yashpal Suvarna president of South Kanara and Udupi district fish traders federation, BJP Kaup president Kuyiladi Suresh Nayak, zilla panchayat member Katpadi Shanker Poojary, Geethanjali Suvarna, leaders Vijaya Karkera, Dinesh Kotian, Yogish Rai, Anil Kumar, Devaraj Thottam, Navin Ameen and others were present.
