Udupi, Jul 21: Kannada film actress Jayamala, who is at the centre of a controversy after she claimed she had touched the feet of Lord Ayyappa idol at Sabarimala in Kerala, on Thursday conducted a ‘Durga namaskar pooja’ as penance for her action 18 years ago.

Jayamala, who has been staying in Udupi with her husband Ramachandra for the last three days, conducted various poojas and homas as penance at Sri Mahalingeshwar temple at Kambalgatta, near Kodavoor in Udupi district, temple sources have said.

"Durga pooja was followed by 'Durga namaskar pooja' for peace in the family," they said, adding all rituals were being conducted under the guidance of a priest from Mangalore.
