Yeddyurappa takes Modi's advice, opts out of race for cabinet berths

New Delhi, May 22 (NDTV): Former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa has opted out of the race for securing a berth in the Narendra Modi Cabinet, and expressed his willingness to take up organisational responsibility in his home state.

"As you expressed in general, I voluntarily and wholeheartedly offer my willingness to work towards strengthening the party in Karnataka," Yeddyurappa, 72, wrote in a letter addressed to the Prime Minister-elect today.

Yeddyurappa was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Shimoga parliamentary constituency, and was being touted as a strong contender for a ministerial slot in the next government. A pep talk by Modi to a delegation of BJP MPs from Karnataka on May 18 forced him to withdraw from the race.

Yeddyurappa recalled Modi's advice during their meeting that since the expectations and aspirations from the new government were "too high" across the country, at least some capable leaders should come forward to strengthen the party in their states.

The Prime Minister-designate reportedly asked the contingent not to lobby for ministerial berths, and, instead, concentrate on reviving the party in the southern state.

Yeddyurappa's decision is expected to facilitate Modi's task of constituting a relatively clean and taint-free ministry.

The BJP, in a reversal of fortunes, bagged 17 of the 28 seats in Karnataka, a state which had voted them out of power just a year ago. The verdict was attributed to the return of Yeddyurappa, a powerful Lingayat leader, and B Sriramulu, a confidant of the Reddy brothers from Bellary.

Yeddyurappa, who was chief minister of Karnataka from 2008 to 2011, was forced to resign from his post after the state Lokayukta report indicted him in a mining scam. He floated his own party - Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) - a year later.

In the assembly elections held in Karnataka last year, the BJP was routed, but the KJP fared worse, winning just six seats in an assembly with a strength of 224.

Yeddyurappa merged his party with the BJP in January, despite resistance from leaders such as LK Advani and Sushma Swaraj.

It is absolutely wrong to decide and crave for a cabinet berth. Eligibility is the main criteria and surely Modi will not consider anyone blindly. He is a very shrewd administrator and has won this election for BJP with huge majority. Modi will decide what is best for the party and for the country. Guys with clean image and experience will definitely help Modi to take forward BJP government in the right direction. I am sure ing the right persons as to have a very formidable government is very important. Yeddy need to wait for his turn, until then work hard for the party.

Modi must have given proper peep talk to this nalayk delegation from state went to meet him for lobbying for berths in the cabinet. Most of them are just won not on their own capabilities. They have been categorically told by Modi to stop infighting among them. Now to save his skin Yeddiji is professing before the swearing in of new government.

One good thing we can see about Modi is he has held the reins tight from the word go and seems like no one can influence him and nobody has the guts to blackmail him. He has an advantage too with clean mandate.
May be we will come to accept him with these kind of "Prove your worth with good work, you will be rewarded" or will be taken to task.
His aim is to consolidate this first five years as base for continuous five years terms at least for 20 years when he can completely dictate terms in changing anything he\BJP wants with RSS as their boss.
I expect nothing untowards during the first term.....

Yedyurappa is leader in the true sence whio built BJP in Karnataka from scrach. He is a matured politician and good hearted too.His tenure as CM in thye state has seen lot of developments.Lot of temples, maths, masjids received financial packaages for development which no other CMs have done so much.He has understood the Modi's mood and minset and being influenced after hearing Modi's maiden spech in Parliament halll few days back he has taken the stand of strengthening BJP in the state.Modi's speech was so imotional that even veteran like Advaniji too were inclined to sitr without any minsterial berths/speaker post. This is so in case of Shobha,Nalin and DVS who openly d that he do not need any posts in the new govt but support Modi's in his crusade. This situation never came in any other governments.Comman people are rest assured that "achche din aane wale hai" ........
Modiji is not only PM of India but he is a "YUGA PURUSH"......

Last Assembly election was lost by BJP only because yeddy took away Lingayat votes towards KJP.
Now BJP has won so many MP seats only because Lingayats voted for BJP due to Yeddy factor. The main object of BJP is over now. So they do not require yeddy and his lingayat vote bank for next four years till next Assembly election. Therefore, Yeddy has no place in Modi's cabinet. Jai Ho Shakuni Baba & Raadiya Babhi.

Modi calls the shots and rightly so, the massive mandate the BJP got to rule India is thanks first and foremost to the disgustingly corrupt and non performing Congress party, and secondly to Modi's campaign and more so for his personal integrity, he is corrupt simply because he has no immediate family and has distanced himself from his siblings knowingly that blood is thicker than water and did not want to be influenced in governance. On this topic, all the MP's who met him tried their best at lobbying for ministerial berths but were politely told, "go back and work for the people who elected you at the grass roots = leave the job of Governance to me and to the team I choose" Yeddi has epitomized corruption and is just one notch lower than the Sonia combines - Keep up the good work Modiji anf your move to invite the SAARC leaders - in particular the PM of Pakistan is well done. we now have India shining and good days ahead. Modi has spine unlike the good but puppet Man Mohan Singh.

Yeddi was the main reason for BJP coming to power in State in previous State Government tenure. But with changing circumstances, wrong propogation by media, activities of Agent Bhardwaj & Siddhu's Street dance, his good governance was shadowed, & later he was sidelined. With present LS election results, his importance is clearly seen as his winning margin itself clearly shows, as how he is appreciated by public at large. Since he won with highest margin in State, it is natural he expect a berth in Cabinet, & with discussion with Modi, he has changed his stand may to wish to continue in the interest of party.
Of course, our Pseudos may not understand this, & they may still repeat Corruption Mantra, ignoring honourable Court verdict on Yeddi.

Modi means business. Business as unusual. Why? the sheer massive victory of Modi has made him popular and he is sensitive and passionate. He will keep out bad blood. His mere note that "do not lobby for cabinet posts"
is an indication that he" rules" and thats the way should be, not in a bad sense but good governance.
I believe he has a vision. He has invited the neighbouring country heads for the coronation and this tell a lot about him that India is a regional power and a good ally. the goodwill of our neighbouring countries is good for all for regional prosperity. I hope Modi signs an agreement with the regional countries for free- trade and no aggression pact. this will ensure prosperity and security so that vast amount of money need not be spent on arms thus providing for the poor.
The summation that Modi is a patriarch is true. The mere bowing down and touching down to the earth in the parliament steps is a great sign that he loves India although many call this as "natak".
Sonia and Rahul must agree and congratulate him for what he is. Criticism at campaigning is fine but after victory ,it is the courtesy and duty of politicians to wish winning candidates.
I think majority of Indians have given him a chance to govern when Congress has failed to properly govern over 10 years amassing corruption, scandals and scams. Congress has dug its own grave. Had Congress shown some ingrate leadership at least they would have won many seats if not majority seats.
Its time for Congress to take a stalk and perhaps get ready and prepare for the next election and the time is now, if not Congress will be disseminated for good from the political arena.
Should Gandhi's lead? Its a question and somebody should answer.

Sir, through expanding the party power, whichever party it might be, the business cycle of the politicians will be getting stronger and powerful. They are not concerned with the people at all but the strength of the party.

See the national decline of the Marxism party. The last two ICU units of the party were West Bengal and Kerala. Now, how many Marxist M.Ps? How many at the party leadership would be out of job without a party? Politics is a business, not at all to serve the public.
