Mangalore, May 23: Sanjay alias Varun (19) who was stabbed to death in broad daylight on Thursday May 22 near Kudru Kallurti Temple, Urwa, was preparing to celebrate his birthday on the same day, before he met a tragic end.

Son of Jagadish alias Talwar Jagga of Boloor, Varun was allegedly murdered by Ashu alias Ashrith, a resident of Urwa Hoigebail Long Lane. Petty fights and continued grudge for the past one month are said to have led to the murder.

It is said that on Thursday May 22, Ashrith knew that Varun would be celebrating his birthday. Varun had decided to invite his friend Mahesh for the celebrations; hence Varun, along with another friend Rajesh at around 2 pm went by bike to pick Mahesh from his residence near Hoigebail Modern rice mill located close to the Kallurti Temple.

Sources said that while Varun was standing near the temple, Ashrith too arrived in his motor bike and began a quarrel with Varun. Meanwhile, four other youths also joined in the fight. As the fight snowballed into a full-fledged brawl and Ashrith allegedly stabbed Varun in the head, forehead, neck and stomach with a knife. Varun who was severely injured, collapsed immediately. Ashrith and the rest then fled the spot.

Rajesh who was with Varun informed people in the nearby houses. An auto driver who had come for lunch called the police. The police who came after 15 minutes to the spot admitted Varun to hospital, but he could not be saved.

The accused Ashrith is the son of former corporator Bajelakeri Kamalaksha. Urwa police inspector Ramachandra Maledevar, CCB inspector Valentine D'Souza, Barka police sub inspector Mohammed Shareef and the canine Squad rushed to the spot.

Urwa police have registered the case.

A month ago, Ashrith had allegedly injured Varun's friends Jayaprakash and Chinna with lighted cigarettes at Parota Centre at Kudroli. They had informed this to Varun. It is alleged that when Varun confronted Ashrith for harming his friends, he threatened Varun with death.

Also, sources said that both Varun and Ashrith were into drugs, cigarette smoking and alcohol. Though the police had warned them, they had not given up their habits. Police also said that on several occasions the boys' parents too supported their children in these issues.

It is in fact really sad for what had happened. We can comment from far the way we want when something is happening and express our feelings and putting blame squarely on parents.Yes it is true. But thing is first and foremost thing is to blame our weak judicial system. Now what police department will do? They will catch the accused and housed in jail for for sometime and referred to magistrate, they in turn put them under judicial custody for some days and finally released on bail because they got strong backing by way of money power and political backing. They roam freely without any fear and start their business again. This will continue as long as there is no stringent punishment is meted to the accused.I do agree that parents role is there in protecting their children but now the trend is opposite.Because now the parents have to live under threat, fear from their wards,no say to parents, whatever children are doing we have to oblige for our very survival. Now the young generation gone weird.Unlike in the past,no respect towards their parents, people at home, elders for their children whether it is girls or boys.Trend is changing drastically because of the modernization. No patience,no tolerance, only aggressiveness, rude behavior baring few.Any I pray God to grant eternal peace to the departed young soul and courage to the family to bear this irreparable loss."Kopavembudu Narana Paapadha Nelegattu,Koopadholu nenu Haridhanthe Sarvajna".God bless them

Tragic and very sad .Ayoung life has ended before it started to blossom for nothing.Drugs, murder and theft ,even Girls are going Hand in Hand one day or the other.Main Thing is to control These Young People before they start their career from parents.Teach them to earn Money with legal work and hard.Educate them with strict rules not to deal with drugs ,alcohol starting self at home not drinking .some times even when they go out of the way,try not to defend them.Drug Dealers are mostly ending with such Problems.I dont think it is the end of the Story. It will continue definitely with grudge from his friends or home People.so please be careful home People of your children. It is like in Maxico, columbien,or Brazil with drug Dealers. Horrible.may his Soul rest in Peace.

crime rates are aroused in Mangalore, Major share of the crime is take up by youngsters of 18 to 25 age group.
    1) I think this is may be because of easy availability of drugs to the students & youths.
    2) These youths are more influenced by the movies & also some local rowdies.
3)desire to earn more money in short span
    4) personal affairs, betting, Gambling, are the main motives for increasing crime rates in Mangalore.
    5) Parents are not bothered about the adolescent children what they do? where they go ? Whom they are touch with ? all these activity of their children parents are needs to assess.
One should focus in all these areas so that at least some amount of youth crime are brought in to control.

Friendship is the cause of enmity and enmity is the cause of murder.

Heavy pocket money, bikes to roam freely and father's influence is the cause of drugs and alcohol.

Good that one druggy is dead and another is behind bars.

Very sad...RIP.. Mangalore cops/CCIB need to open files of old Criminals as all are saints now on screen..but the juniors are growing much speeder than thier father or brothers influence.. eg. Yemmekere, Yekkoor,Vamanjoor,.. if our cops are not alert in controlling these youths.. we may find such articles regularly of new generations.
CCIB also needs to track on youth leaders who support crime as fashion.

If the system fails to deliver, this is what happens.

These youth have seen how weak is our justice system and police action. they are influenced by freely roaming rowdies in Mangalore and their lifestyle and easy money.

The only option is to eradicate rowdism with strict measures. Eminent police officers should be appointed and with encounters a cleansing should be done. at least this can crate a fear in newer generation to not to indulge in such activities.
