Ebola virus kills 74 in Guinea

Conakry, April 30 (IANS): Statistics released by the Guinean government show that 121 Ebola cases had been confirmed, including 74 deaths, by April 28 in different treatment centres set up by the government and its partners who include the World Health Organization and Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

Statistics presented Tuesday by Guinea's health ministry show that 10 patients are currently hospitalised, four in Conakry and six in the southeast town of Guekedou, according to Xinhua.

During a press briefing in Conakry, Guinea's Health Minister Remy Lamah said measures had been taken to treat patients who had contracted the virus and to continue sensitisation of the population on individual as well as collective preventive measures.

At the same time, through funding from the Guinean government and the country's technical health partners, drugs and protective kits have been distributed to health workers and vulnerable populations in high risk zones.
