Speaking to daijiworld, Fr Edwin, director of ICYM expressed his views on the youth of the diocese and the upcoming event.

“Udupi diocese is brand new and during this time the role of the youth in the development of the diocese is crucial. There must be emphasis on family values. The youth must take part in the ward activities at the parish level, and then at the diocese level. Moreover, they have to build our society,” he said.

"As the first youth director of the new diocese, it is my duty to inculcate values and direct our youth to new and better ventures. I find it important to also help the youth to find their true identity,” he added.

"In this world of social media and instant messaging, our youth seem to be busy with external values; it is our duty and the duty of the church and elders to help youth communicate in better ways. They have the capacity to be strong leaders in the society as well as for the church. They must learn to get to know each other, their strengths and weaknesses and they need to overcome their fears. We provide a platform for their performance, they in turn need to unite and work as a team to showcase their abilities. Hence their role in the upcoming event is important and aptly termed as ‘Youth Fest’," he added.

“As a director I want them to grow individually and as a community for a better future. ICYM renders a right platform with due guidance for this purpose,” he said.

A huge number of youth are expected to take part in the different events during this fest from all the parishes of the Udupi diocese.

Currently, Ivan D’Silva from Brahmavar is the president, while Shawn Tauro is the vice president, Renal D’souza the lady vice-president, Waylon Machado the secretary, Steffi Lavina D’souza the joint secretary, Godwin Danthy the Treasurer, Lyod Serao the auditor, Deepak Machado and Tina Machado nominated members, Alwyn Fernandes the reporter, Vivin Steffi D’souza and Brayan Alphonse the RTS. For almost five decades the peace loving Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) has been active all over the Mangalore Diocese and has helped thousand's of younger generation to plan, organize their future life in many areas. As a new Udupi Diocese is active from last two years, it is a huge achievement for the Diocese to gather such a "MEGA-MELA" of Udupi Catholic Youths who consider the Ten Commandments as their basis of life. All the participants, I suggest that enjoy a day, gain additional knowledge of your district, learn devotion, make new friends and have fun. If you are still a students, wish you well in your the board/ university/ entrance exams. Like his CD, UDI UDI Prajoth D' Sa Musical Nite will be a super hit.
