Moodbidri, Jan 19: Carmel School, paid a vibrant and meaningful tribute to the nation by hosting a mock parliament that showcased unparalleled enthusiasm and unity on January 10. This colourful event brought the school community together to honour Indian democracy offering students a hands-on experience of debate, deliberation and lawmaking in the Lok Sabha.
The students of grade 8 performed a spectacular mock parliament session that began with the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected members. The proceedings continued with an obituary reference and the introduction of a new policy by the honourable Prime Minister Dhruvi Roopa focusing on women empowerment. The education minister Neha J followed with an engaging presentation on the New Education Policy (NEP).
The highlight of the session was the question hour where the ruling party led by Prime Minister Dhruvi Roopa and her team of ministers Neha J (education), Reanna (foreign affairs), Anora D'Souza (agriculture), Sanvi Reona D'Souza (finance), Crisswell (health), and Avish (defence) engaged in intense debates with the opposition. The opposition party led by Sudhanshu S Devadiga, matched the ruling party's vigor creating a dynamic and thought-provoking atmosphere.
The session was efficiently moderated by the honourable speaker Jacob James ensuring decorum throughout the proceedings. Key roles were played by secretary-general Felim Joshuva, Guard Rithesh and media coordinator Keerthan Kulal who added professionalism and realism to the event.
Vice-Principal Sr Preena AC appreciated the students for their meticulous arrangements and commended their efforts in bringing the democratic process to life with such authenticity and enthusiasm. She highlighted the teamwork, confidence and creativity exhibited by the students.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Sienna Pinto, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to its success. The welcome speech by Ayush and the skilled emceeing by Chandan brought warmth and energy to the event.
The mock parliament not only provided students with a unique opportunity to learn about democratic processes but also fostered critical thinking, collaboration and respect for diverse perspectives. By encouraging leadership skills and an appreciation for democracy, this event proved to be a powerful and inspiring celebration of India’s democratic spirit.
