Mangalore: Toddler locks mother in bathroom, alert neighbours save the day

Mangalore, Dec 9: In an incident that may have turned to tragedy if not for the presence of mind of neighbours, a two-year-old child locked her mother in the bathroom when no one else was at home.
The incident was took place at Matrix West Wing Apartments at Alake here on Monday December 9.
Malathi, the mother of the child went for a bath leaving her two-year-old daughter all to herself. The child while playing latched the bathroom door from the outside, locking her mother in.
Unable to make the child unlatch the door, Malathi then called out to her neighbours through the ventilator in the bathroom and shouted for help.
The neighbours rushed to her rescue, but found the main door locked from the inside. When they peeped from the window, the saw the child holding a pair of scissors in her hand.
Frightened that the child may harm herself, the neighbours called the fire service.
At the same time, some of the neighbours went to the house of the apartment owner at Urwa and brought spare keys of the flat.
By the time the fire service arrived, the neighbours got the spare keys and rescued the mother and the child.
