Mangalore, Mar 14: "Media Education and Media in Education" a two-day workshop for the regional communication Directors to draft a syllabus for Media Education at school level organized by Sandesha was inaugurated by Sandesha chairman Bishop Aloysius Paul D' Souza of Mangalore.

Dr Shashikala, Dean of Education Department, St Ann's College of Education, Mangalore University was the chief guest with Richard Louis from the world of Cinema and Media as the guest of honour.

Sandesha director Fr Denis D' Sa welcomed the gathering as well as compered the proceedings.

Sandesha Lalitkala Mahavidyalaya principal Araty Shetty introduced the chief guest. Trustee and former city mayor P M Castelino was present and he honoured the dignitaries on the dais with flowers and mementos.

The essence of the workshop was succinctly expressed by both the eminent educationist and cinema artiste, each in his own way While the educationist who will lead the workshop stressed on how to train our children to use the media positively, the screen - playwright, stressed on the democratization of thought provided by the media He also said "give what they need not what they ask for.

The president's speech pointed out how this task was the need of the hour as students are the future of the nation and they need a critical analysis of the media. He expressed his gratitude for all that is undertaken at sandesha in media Education.

The highlight of the morning was the presentation of the ballet on communal harmony "Samarasa Sandesha" aptly choreographed and rendered by dance lecturer Mary Bini and a troupe of Sandesha students.
