Panaji, Sep 19: Goa Police has launched a new fitness initiative aimed at enhancing the health and wellbeing of its personnel. The 'Fit Goa Police' programme will focus on regularly measuring the Body Mass Index (BMI) of police officers and staff, offering personalized lifestyle recommendations to bring their BMI within the desired range.

Director general of police (DGP) Alok Kumar, at the programme's launch, emphasized that improved fitness is crucial for effective policing. "The health and wellbeing of our personnel is critical to the efficiency and effectiveness of the police force. This initiative is a step forward in ensuring that our officers are fit, focused, and capable of meeting the demands of their duties," he said.

The initiative seeks to improve the overall health profile of Goa Police, boosting productivity and reducing lifestyle-related diseases. It also aims to foster a culture of fitness and wellbeing across the force, according to inspector general of police (IGP) Omvir Singh.

As part of the programme, BMI measuring machines, donated through a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, will play a key role in tracking the health of personnel. Health experts will use the data to provide tailored lifestyle advice for each officer, helping them maintain their fitness and perform their duties more effectively.
