Mangalore, Sep 12: A briefing about the programmes implemented during the year 2012-13 in Mangalore North zone under ‘Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana’ was held at the government school, Gandhinagar, on Thursday September 12.
Fisheries minister K Abhayachandra Jain released a documentation of the programmes implemented during the year on the occasion.
Addressing media persons, minister Jain said, “Our district has benefitted a lot under Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana and we were the first in the state to utilize the amount sanctioned effectively. Depending on the funds allotted by the center, work is undertaken.”
Zonal education officer Lokesh C said, “There are 317 schools in which a total of 67,244 students study. Under Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana, a sum of Rs 2,23,86,568 was released in which all the necessary work of Rs 2,22,59,700 was undertaken in north zone.”
“In the year 2013-14, we did not receive any funds to undertake civil work. All the necessary development work like construction of building, toilets, classrooms, and repairs were undertaken in the year 2012-13 and only construction of compound walls and other major work is yet to be done,” he added.
“In order to give qualitative education to government school students, the government has decided to organize a new and unique programme called ‘Kalikotsava’ in 203 blocks of the state, “ added Lokesh.
